U.S. Jobless Claims Climb to Highest Level in 3 Years

Recent unemployment data paint a mixed picture of the labor market. Initial jobless claims remained unchanged at 219,000, a figure below many analysts’ projections. At the same time, continuing claims rose to 1.91 million, their highest level in three years. Together, these numbers suggest that while layoffs are not accelerating, the job market is showing signs of softening as more people stay unemployed longer and face greater difficulty finding new work.
